Spanish roots with a 500+ year pedigree and a name like Martinez go hand in hand in my heritage, but when I recently took a DNA test to see what else lurked in my blood, I wasn’t surprised to find Italian and Greek swimming around. What did astonish me though, was the percentage, which was slightly higher than my Spanish DNA. I decided to play with that discovery for 2017, and are featured in this year's collections of Feroce, Stella and Tempesta.
Feroce, (fe-roh-cheh) meaning fierce in Italian, gives homage to the strength, determination, and warriors of my ancestors, who fought for their country and heritage in ancient and recent times. By exploring the use of the horse for work and for battle, these rustic, edgy pieces take inspiration from the grace of the animal and it’s tack accessories. The Feroce Collection features an edgy yet graceful combination of rough, uncut diamonds with flowing metal in blackened sterling silver and the gleam of high karat gold.
Stella, named for the constellations that guided my forebearers while navigating new horizons. Their journeys seldom had road maps, but with visions of possibility and promise, they forged paths to a destiny paved with courage and honor. Sprinklings of diamonds In rich, high karat gold are mirrored in the names of this special collection , and a lifelong passion is realized in bold, and daring silhouettes.
Tempesta, the storm, evokes the spirit of my heritage. Maintaining it has never been easy, with wars and migration, both old and new; where religions and borders change, and change again, sometimes to exclude you, sometimes to include you, whether one desires it or not. These pieces represent the tools of the warrior, the shields, the swords and the armor, mixed with the emotions that come with that. The Tempesta Collection features dynamic geometrics in hammered silver shapes accented with high karat gold.
These extraordinary pieces feature an opulent clustering of stones, metals and sparkles, creating a lush layering effect, studded with Mother Nature's rich bounty of treasures. Each piece is truly unique as they are all made one at a time, and the materials will vary slightly from piece to piece. Pendants are sold separately and can be added on any chain. For a complete joyarte look, try it paired with our Collana NeckCuffs, hand crafted in 14k Gold Fill, Sterling Silver, or Black Rubber over Bronze. Collana can be found in the Feroce and Metalismo Collections.
The longest running collection for joyarte, Prima provided the intial aesthetic that is joyarte. With a new take on traditonal silhouettes, Prima was able to reflect ina contemporary way. Some of our most successful pieces included our floral motifs, used in our brooches and hairpieces.Others favorites were intense and presentational chandelier earrings.
Inspired by my late father's name of Guadalupe, my research discovered that Guadalupe is actually a river in Spain. Taing that water element, all the pieces in this collection are named after the many rivers in Spain, and each piece I sought to evoke the imagery of moving water, from delicate streams, to lively babbling brooks, to immense and torrent waterfalls.
These joyarte signature picks were chosen by several of our collectors and fans, and include some beloved choices by Priscilla Encanto, one of our best selling collections still resonates with cpatrons of joyarte. The aesthetic is light and delcate and evokes melodic passages of music with the lyricism and movement of dance. Selections from Gotica encompass the expression of Encanto and adds another element of gothic black. More fave picks are from Rio Lobo, a collection inspired by the imagery of flowing water in nature and embrace the names of the many rivers in Spain.
